This study explores the convolute relationship that exist between media, terrorism and banditry in Nigeria, emphasising how media\r\nportray and report terrorism and banditry, as well as the nexus that exist between the media and terrorism in the face of violence. The\r\nstudy also examines the genesis of insurgencies in Nigeria and the journey so far. In order to achieve this aim relevant literature were\r\nreviewed. The agenda setting theory was employed as the theoretical framework. The research methodology used in the media was libraryor desk research methodology. As a position paper, the study found that media have the potential to combat and inadvertently amplify insecurity. The study also found that terrorists and bandits utilise media platforms for propaganda, recruitment and operational coordination. The findings suggest that responsible media practices are crucial in mitigating the spread of violence and misinformation, while strategic media messages can serve as a tool for counter-terrorism and community resilience. However, the study recommends thatmedia outlets should adhere to ethical standards that minimise sensationalism and avoid unintentionally glorifying or propagatingterrorist and banditry narratives, as governments and security agencies should work closely with media organisations platforms to flag, and remove extremist content swiftly
